well, we made it! we are finally back at our tiny house on penrose place. lily is definitely a little bit confused, at times asking to "go home", but she is adjusting well. she is at her happiest with the grandparents and little friends here, though she often asks for our friends back in orlando. nana and papa's backyard and grandma's "farm" are major draws for her and have already provided hours of entertainment (which means a break for the parents!!).

as for me and tom, we are also getting settled back into life here in cincinnati... hitting all of our favorite eateries almost daily! tom keeps commenting on the beautiful landscaping in the neighborhood, and i have to admit, there are some beautiful old homes and gardens to envy. i am sure that over time ours will be improved too ... though that will be not be any time soon!

unfortunately, we have been struck with a ton of bad luck lately. a lightning strike at our house in orlando (the week before we left) knocked out several major appliances, tom's computer, our alarm system, and various other things. we are still trying to recover from that, as well as deal with all of the new problems at our penrose house... busted pipe, ants, an unwelcome bat living on our back porch, electricity failures, and a variety of other problems!

however, despite everything that has happened, God is faithful and is continuing to provide for us. we are anxious to finally get settled... me with a new job, and tom with his current work... and to get on with life!

so we are all preparing for our big move back to cincinnati this weekend. thinking proactively, i flew up with sweet lil a week ahead of time. i wanted at least one of us to be spared the tedious sixteen hour drive up north.

unfortunately, i had very limited time with lily this past week. i was busy painting the new (old) house for us, including lily's new big girl room! (see pic below) i don't know how much i was missed though as the grandparents and various doggies and kitties were entertaining enough! when i left lily at the airport curbside with her papa, she was covered in bruises and scratches... true signs of playing hard and having the time of her little life!

now, as i write this from orlando, in the place where i brought a sweet little bundle home from the hospital just a little over two years ago, the house is remarkably quiet and empty feeling. i miss that little girl something fierce. forget the excitement of moving to a new place... freshly painted and begging to be decorated (something i am remarkably proud of doing in just a week's time)... i can't wait to see the best thing that God has given me here on earth...lily.

today, i decided that it would be fun to make cookies with sweet lils. it turned out better than i could have hoped. there was only one small meltdown... when i wouldn't let her eat the cookie dough that we had already placed on the tray. but other than that, we had a great time!

it has been a long time since i have really posted anything. some people have asked me what happened to all of the pictures on this blog. long story short, blogger sucks... and if you have more than one account, and try to merge them to one, this is what happens! anyway, what's done is done.

chef mickey's

On Monday night we took sweet Lil to Chef Mickey's at Disney's Contemporary Resort. She was totally overstimulated, and didn't even want to eat her dinner... though she did make room for dessert. Big surprise!

She loved the characters and gave kisses and high fives to all of them except Pluto. There wasn't anything that was going to pull her attention away from her very own ice cream cone!

It's bittersweet when we go to Disney, as we know that our days of visiting the parks on a whim will soon be gone when we move back up north. However, we are making the most of our time there while we can. Next up, Mickey's Christmas Party at the Magic Kingdom in a few weeks. We can't wait!

Lately I've been feeling the heat from some well-meaning mama's for not going the "traditional" route and subjecting Lily (and myself!) to Elmo, Veggie Tales, etc. Let me be clear, there is absolutely nothing wrong with these types of shows, in fact I know that they have great messages and teach "littles" about all sorts of good things. I just find them annoying and not for Lily... or should I say, not for me! (Get real parents, you know that if you don't somewhat enjoy what is on the screen, you aren't going to choose it for your kids to watch!)

In our house, Yo Gabba Gabba is the show to watch and always produces a smile on little Lil's face (and mine). Not only is it colorful and fun, but it's only 30 minutes long and quickly changes from scene to scene so as not to become boring. I not only love that it encourages kids to get up and dance (something I'm sure Winnie the Pooh never does), but it also highlights music groups that we listen to on a regular basis. It's especially cool because they are singing songs written for little ears.

I love that Lily is being exposed to all different types of music. It's fun to watch her clap her hands and try to "sing" with Eddie Vedder, Mates of State, and The Beatles, while also knowing Jesus Loves Me and The Itsy Bitsy Spider too.

All of these things will make her a more well-rounded child.. and that makes a mama happy!

This past Thursday was a very eventful day in our home. Not only was it Lily's first day at her "baby school" but it was also her first visit to the emergency room.

I am starting back to work this week and will be working two days a week. While I am at work, Lily will be going to "Mom's Day Out" at a local church. Anyway, her first day couldn't have gone any better. Her teacher, Miss Luanda, said that she talked all day long (no surprise there) and didn't have any problem taking her nap on the mat (much much different from the crib she's used to).

After I picked her up, we went home and were playing with Daddy in his office, when Lily tripped and split open her forehead. We were all upset and covered in blood by the time we arrived at the children's hospital in downtown Orlando. Luckily, we were able to get right in, and after getting stitched up by a plastic surgeon, we were back at home and resting. Lily handled the whole situation much better than I did. :S

Lily is doing very well and doesn't seem to mind the bandages we put on her forehead. We are going to be taking every precaution to minimize the scarring. It's a good thing that Lily likes wearing hats, as her face won't be seeing the sun anytime soon!

Apparently, PBS has recently announced that they are pulling Mister Rogers Neighborhood from their daily syndicated lineup and instead will only show it to specific stations on weekends.

Isn't this just sad? I mean, I grew up loving this show. I have been so excited for Lily to be introduced to all of the "neighbors" and to learn his sweet songs. It's ironic that I just heard about this today, since I had previously been working on a post about children's music and television (check back for that one soon). I can't imagine a more positive figure for young children than Mister Rogers.

I have totally become addicted to my new MacBook.. and especially to the iMovie and iDVD programs. If you've already watched the videos on my previous posts you'll understand what I'm talking about! Since I'm not into scrapbooking I've decided to try and make a hard bound book and dvd for each year of my kids' lives. Having a Mac makes this so much easier! The programs are so easy to use that even an average girl like me can make something to be proud of. If you want to see a true professional video though, you should check out my nephew, Lincoln's videos that his Daddy makes him. A w e s o m e !

Anyway, I had a blast working on both for Lily's first year... and have already begun her Year Two video. I recently found some awesome music and can't wait to have more video clips/images to make more. I'm such a nerd, that I've also picked out music for my next kid....no, I'm not preggers... just looking to the future is all. :) Whoever we get next will have the sweet song "One Day, Two Days, Three Days Old" by one of my new favs Elizabeth Mitchell. My family will be impressed that it's not an Elliott Smith song!

Last week, we discovered that Miss Lily has caught on to all of the singing we do around the house. She decided to finally show us what she could do herself!

Recently, Tom and I took Lily to the Magic Kingdom for a family day. It couldn't have gone more smoothly (even with it raining from time to time)! We had a blast going on rides, walking around, and playing in Fantasyland. Tom even made the obligatory Disney purchase and bought Lily ears and a souvenir Dumbo doll at the end of the day. Sucker!

Overall, we really enjoyed our time together and look forward to going again.

Sweet Lil is now 14 mos old! She is a chatterbox and loves to "talk" on her phone, though the only real words she says are "hi, mama, dada, no & dog). She is quite active and tries to climb on everything that she can... cushions, her car, the doggies, etc. Her current favorite activities are spinning in circles, looking at books, cooking with Mama, dancing and singing songs, and giggling with her best friends, Polly and Franklin who kiss her often.

Yesterday was our little Easter celebration in Orlando, with just the three of us and the dogs. Lily got her first Easter basket and experienced her first egg hunt. While Tom enjoyed hiding the eggs, the doggies would find them and push them around the room with their noses! It was hard to keep them away until Lily could find them.

Lily was so sweet toddling from egg to egg and shaking it to hear the treat inside. She would try to hold all of the eggs in her hands and wouldn't want to put them down!

last weekend, we celebrated lily's 1st birthday with our orlando friends by having a polka dot party. it was a blast and everyone showed up wearing something with polka dots. how nice it is to know that so many people love our little lily and would want to celebrate her.

We can't believe how fast the year is gone and how our baby is now a one year old! Lily is an absolute joy. She is walking all over the place now and is quite vocal. We're sure that talking is right around the corner now.

For her birthday, we had a Cincinnati party last weekend and are having an Orlando party this weekend. It was so nice to see family and friends...even if it was for just a short time. We were sad that not everyone could be there, but we still had a really good time.

Due to all of the bad stuff that we had to deal with to close out 2007, I haven't had the chance to update Lily's blog. It is one of my goals for 2008 to update again on a regular basis.

Anyway, despite all of the craziness, Christmas was a lot of fun. It was nice to see our families and some of our friends. We really enjoyed watching Lily try to open up presents. She is such a joy to have and is getting bigger everyday.

Lily's first birthday is quickly approaching, and we are busy making plans to travel to Cincy for a party, as well as another party here in Orlando. Check back for pics of those events in February.

Recently, our friends, Betsy and Lydia, came for a visit with us. It was our first annual "Girl's Weekend" and it was a blast! Lily really took to Lydia and it was so much fun to watch the two of them interact.

9 months ago today lily was born. i can't believe how fast time is ticking by and how much she is doing now. in the past two weeks, lily has learned to go from her tummy to sitting, to crawl and now to pull herself up to a standing position and "walk" while holding onto things. she is a little chatterbox and is an extremely happy little girl.

over labor day weekend, the three of us drove out to vero beach for a mini vacation. the hotel was beautiful and overall, it was a pretty relaxing trip. it was our first vacation with just our little family and it was quite memorable. click on the image below to access our pictures.

we have been so lucky to have such wonderful visits with our families this summer. lily and i just returned back to orlando after another trip to cincinnati. it was so very relaxing and enjoyable to spend time with nana and poppy. we even were able to see a lot of uncle paul and great aunt genie, as well as lily seeing her great great grandma from california for the first time!

lily is now 6 months old. we can hardly believe how fast the first half of her first year is flying by. she has such a sweet spirit and is a very happy girl. we are truly lucky to have such a good baby and thank God for her daily.

this past weekend we all flew to cincinnati to visit with tom's family. it was so great to see everyone. we missed lily's uncle john but enjoyed being with auntie jenn and seeing lincoln walking all over the place. it truly was a very relaxing trip for us. when we arrived home we were immediately all hit with a virus which stinks, but all in all it was a wonderful weekend. see below for some pictures of our visit.

On Saturday, Tom and I took Lily to the beach for the first time. We spent the evening in Lido Key (very close to Sarasota), eating dinner, shopping and walking on the beach at sunset. It was so much fun and relaxing to spend some time just the three of us. Lily wasn't exactly sure what to make of the sand and ocean. Enjoy the photos!

well, everything is ready to go. the bags have been packed, the nursery is finished... now we're just waiting for miss lily to arrive.

the doctor seems to think that i'll deliver a week or so early, which would mean any day now. according to him, i'm approximately 100% effaced, but as of last friday, was not yet dilated. hopefully, i'll get some good news tomorrow when i go back for my weekly appointment.

in the mean time, here are pictures of the finished nursery. i must say, it is by far the best room that i have ever decorated. it is the most calming and relaxing room that i've ever been in. both tom and i absolutely love it, and can't wait to bring her home to it.

hopefully, we'll have some good news to share of her arrival soon!

3 weeks? eek!

tom and i went to our scheduled 36 week appointment on friday, only to be told that things are moving so well along that we can probably expect Lily to arrive a week early! we had one last ultrasound, per our doctor's request, and found out that she is measuring little over 6 lbs. when she finally arrives she'll probably weigh around 8 lbs.

we are frantically finishing up on odds and ends now. packing our overnight bags, meeting with our doula, writing out a birth plan, etc etc. needless to say, we are both nervously anticipating what is going to be happening to our "family" in the next few weeks.

i think we're ready.... well... ready or not, here she comes!

at my doctor's office, we are lucky enough to have one of the 3D ultrasound machines. for a fee, you can see a more defined view of your baby in utero starting at 28 weeks.

for my mom's birthday, she asked to have this done for me as her present from my dad. when we all went together, about two weeks ago, lily wasn't exactly cooperating. as you can see from the photo, she had her little arms and hands up near her face (looking like she was praying), so we were unable to get a clear shot of her features. the technician was wonderful and told me to come back in about two weeks and she'd scan me again for free!

this morning, my mom (who was back in town visiting while my dad was in business meetings) and i went back to the doctor to have the rescan. i'm so glad that we did! not only was it easier to see her little face, but we were able to get a very clear shot of her anatomy. needless to say, she's definitely a little girl! some of the best pictures and video are below.

painting the nursery

since we had some free time, tom and i decided to go ahead and get the nursery painted this past weekend. i had seen a nursery in an old martha stewart baby magazine, and knew that i wanted to replicate it, no matter if we were having a boy or a girl. Because i love all things vintage, we are doing the nursery in vintage 1940's and 1950's decor. anyway, the nursery decorating hasn't even begun, but you will see the work in progress.

i also went to the doctor today, and everything is going well with lily. she was moving and kicking so much that my doc is sure she'll be an active little girl. start praying for us now!

yes, that's right, tom and i are expecting a daughter in january! we went to my 20 week ultrasound today, and found out that a little girl is in our future.

i'm so excited and thrilled at the thought of pigtails and dress-ups. however, i'm realistic in knowing that she might not be interested in these at all! anyway, in the waiting room, tom leans over to me and says, "you know what this means? dance recitals!". we both really laughed about that one.

it's going to be an adjustment, because we both were sure that it was going to be a boy. however, we're happy and can't wait to meet her in january!

since the next several months are going to be crazy, and because we had a free afternoon for once, we decided to go ahead and register for our baby things today. if you'd like, you can check out what we think we'll "need" at target and babies "r" us.
